I hold my hands up. I’m guilty as charged. I’ve been a very, very bad blogger and Plumdiddlyumcious hasn’t had any love, care or attention of late. However before I nail myself to the cross, I’ve had good reason! The past six weeks have seen me working away furiously (from 6am to 2am most days) on a diet of caffeine and sugar (almost every day) on a really exciting project. Let me introduce you to The Stylist’s Rail. The Stylist’s Rail is a wardrobe sale that I created in March this year in a bar in Dalston called Birthdays, where the traders were a collective of stylists and stylish folk selling cast-offs to covet. It was an instant hit. Since March the traders have expanded to include ASOS marketplace sellers, vintage collectors, and a selection of independent designers and knock-out local labels, and fashion writers and editors from The Times, WGSN, COMPANY, Time Out and Grazia have all been spotted rifling through the rails!

Throughout the summer I’ve taken The Stylist’s Rail “on the road” and as well as appearing on the first of every month at Birthdays it’s taken residency at The Sanderson hotel in support of a charity event for Fashion Targets Breast Cancer, at boutique pop-up festival The Pit in East London, and as part of The Blues Kitchen Explosion at XOYO, an all-day mini festival where The Stylist’s Rail shared the bill with the likes of Huey Morgan and Kitty Daisy and Lewis.

For the past six weeks I’ve been planning and prepping for a large-scale version of The Stylist’s Rail. Shopping should be fun and so I wanted to make a real event of it, to create a destination where you can browse and buy from a selection of incredible and unique pieces, but also kick back, drink a cocktail, hang out and make new friends to a banging hands-in-the-air soundtrack of great tunes! So that’s exactly what I did.

A few weekends ago I took The Stylist’s Rail to The Hoxton Hotel, a destination synonymous with fashion, and turned The Apartment, an events space designed to look like a Manhattan loft apartment, into a giant house party! And because all good parties start in the kitchen this is where the Hoxton Radio DJs and party-popper Blonde Ambition took up residence playing an eclectic mix of party-tastical tunes that got the whole room rocking, me included. The Kitchen was also where shoppers were served a fruity Bloom Gin cocktail by The Hoxton Hotel’s resident mixologists, which turned out to be the perfect lubrication for a day of shopping and certainly got everyone in the mood (me definitely included)! For the early-birds there was a goodie bag of treats from Propercorn, Frame Shoreditch, VitaCoco, Lush handmade cosmetics, Back of the Wardrobe, Bohemian Rose Vintage, and Blue Tit hair salons.

The traders, all 21 of them, set up shop in The Kitchen and within the various rooms that lead off of it, including The Library, The Dining Room, The Study and The Living Room which was even complete with an enormous corner sofa for shoppers to lounge on whilst debating that perfect purchase. Essentially I’d created my version of shopping paradise, and later on when someone tapped me on the shoulder to tell me “this is exactly what London needs” I realised that it wasn’t just mine either.
