Dalston Darlings October : Life is Better in Glitter

I love glitter. Oh I really love, love, luh-hurrrrrrve glitter. However not nearly as much as Momtaz Begum Hossain who, on Wednesday, was our Dalston Darlings speaker for October. She’s even written a book on the sparkly stuff entitled 101+ Things to Do with Glitter! Yep, a whole 101 plus (emphasis on the plus), as there’s actually far more than just 101 things to do with it, would you Adam and Eve.

Momtaz is a Queen of all things Crafty and also runs a Hackney based craft night called The Make Escape at The Hackney Attic. As a fellow crafty bitch myself I thoroughly enjoyed listening to her chat about how, and why, she got into craft and ended up turning it into a fully-fledged career.

After her talk she ran a crafting session and the Darlings were falling over themselves to get stuck in and get their craft on! The Dalston Darlings are certainly a creative bunch as there was a vast array of glittery items made from sparkly bow-ties to nipple-tassels (I think I’ve mentioned before that we’re a non-trad W.I!) bookmarks to corsages and one very clever lady made a foxy badge that we agreed was quite possibly the best thing made that night.

I’m going to be interviewing Momtaz next week so be keep your peepers peeled for an abridged version of the talk she gave that had us all conceding that life truly is better in glitter.

The Dalston Darlings Women’s Institute meet on the first Wednesday of the month at Pub on the Park in London Fields. Visit www.dalstondarlings.net for more info.
